This week in math we learned about using letters in different equations. We talked about how the letters signify the number we need to find. The students had a lot of fun practicing this, and kept asking for more and more equations.
Monday we enjoyed a day off for teacher workshops, so this week was a four day week. On Tuesday we celebrated Election Day!!! We didn't talk too much about the current elections going on (I'm sure the students are hearing a lot about all the craziness outside of school), but rather we talked about what we would do if we were president, and read a funny book called, "My Teacher for President," which talks about different things presidents do. The students made some amazing posters and wrote a lot about what they would do if they were president (pictures of each one are on your child's SEESAW account). I was so impressed with their work!!! They are writing in Spanish so well!!
On Friday we celebrated Veterans Day!! We give a big THANK YOU to all the Veterans who serve, or have served, for our country. With Mrs. Ogren, the students all made cards to be sent to current Veterans. With Señorita Julia and I, we talked about characteristics Veterans have, read a book, and worked on a reading packet with partners. On Monday, a few Veterans will be coming to Madison School and the whole school will be together as we raise the school flag and sing some songs to our Veterans. |
This week, the students had a substitute on Tuesday as I was in the Twin Cities visiting another Spanish Immersion school to learn more about other programs and to get some more ideas. What a fun experience! I have so many fun ideas for our students in the weeks to come. One brain break idea I learned was a version of "Rock, Paper, Scissors" but using numbers. Students throw out numbers 1-5 using their fingers, and both students try to answer the fastest by adding, subtracting, or multiplying the numbers. They LOVED this game! Try it at home :) |
