This week, we also introduced our first science unit, Science and Engineering, and talked about the process scientists use by making our own fan book. SCIENTISTS: 1. Observe 2. Ask a question 3. Make a hypothesis 4. Do an experiment 5. Look for a conclusion |
This week during social studies time, we learned a lot about compasses and directions. We labeled our classroom walls and practiced walking to the north, south, east, west, and the four directions in between. The students then were able to get creative and draw a compass into a picture of their own. They turned out beautiful and so creative!!!
1. Observan 2. Preguntar algo 3. Hacer un hipótesis 4. Experimentan 5. Buscan una conclusión |

This week we learned a fun new math came: Anything but Five. The students all start with 95 points and want to get to 0 the fastest. They role five dice, up to three times, while choosing the highest four numbers to add. They then subtract the sum of those four numbers from 95, and that number is the new starting point
At the end of our short week we had beautiful weather and spent the end of the day reading outside in our Madison Garden. Hopefully we still have a few more warm days left for this, it was a blast! On Wednesday, we were introduced to some more simple ways to make multiplication problems. Although we haven't been doing "multiplication" completely, we have been introducing it slowly by making "groups of" things. The photo on the right shows a pet shop and all the toys, food, and things they have their. In partners, the students had to make equations to figure out how many of each things there were. For example, on top right where it says "Correas" (leashes) to find out how many there are, they saw two columns across and three rows down. 2 X 3 = 6. We say "2 groups of 3 is equal to 6." For the "Pelotas para perro" (balls) they could say 5 groups of 6 = 30. They had a lot of fun with this activity!
